Speak Up Show Love

We want to bring to your attention an event sponsored by the Youth Ministry of the Diocese of Michigan. We at Covenant 5 have long been active in prevention of bullying, and this event speaks to this concern and more regarding young people.

From Youth Ministry:

Speak Up Show Love is an event designed to give middle and high school students an opportunity to discover and practice ways of showing love and support to those populations that are being discriminated against, as well as ways to be positive messengers of love in a world that is increasingly showing hate.

We are calling our workshop times: Praxis. Praxis is the process by which a theory, lesson, or skill is enacted, embodied, or realized.

It is hosted at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brighton, MI on March 10th from 10am – 3pm. This free event will feature cool music, inspiring speakers, games and Praxis, lunch, and free t-shirts to the first 100 participants.

We also welcome parents and other adults to come and experience the day along side their students. No pre-registration needed, just come to St. Paul’s (200 W. St. Paul Street, Brighton, MI) by 10am on Saturday, march 10th, and join us for a day of Light, Love and Encouragement.

If you have any questions, please contact Eric Travis, the Missioner for Youth and Young Adults at etravis@edomi.org or (313) 833-4418.

What About Guns?

In light of the all-too-frequent mass shootings in the United States, our friends at the Episcopal Peace Fellowship have shared information for individuals and congregations striving to prevent gun violence. Links can be found HERE.

Relief, Service, Advocacy

Covenant 5 has long focused on advocacy — addressing the root causes of injustice, poverty and inequality. There is, of course, always a need to seek out ways to serve those in immediate need, especially in emergencies. Episcopal Relief and Development has a long history of serving as the “compassionate response of The Episcopal Church to human suffering in the world”. Find them at episcopalrelief.org, and read about their responses to the recent hurricanes HERE.
